A weird thing happened yesterday...All the TV stations are GONE!
And then I remembered...They've all gone digital!

I knew this was coming!

So the amazing thing is Blu-ray won out over HD (High Definition).
I didn't think this war was ever going to end.
Superior quality has its price, and its benefits!

Owning a Blu-ray DVD player?...Priceless!
(now I gotta shop for more cool titles...)

Online shopping catalogs add plasma HDTV to their list!

Peach Direct has added the Phillips plasma HDTV to
their online catalog for monthly payments with no interest until
2008.
So, I got this letter the other day...explaining the whole deal. Cool.
The payments are about $45. There is a toll-free number and
their internet address. Oh, yes. It's http://www.peachdirect.com/. I would
jump at the chance, but I'm just a poor student going to college.
Go check it out.
Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: Format war!

There's a war going on! Sony executives say the war has
started between their Blu-ray disc format for high
definition content and rival HD DVD.
Sony has sold an estimated 100,000 stand-alone
Blu-ray disc players so far. This does not include
the multiple thousands of Play Station 3 consoles
that include a Blu-ray drive.

The rival HD DVD format is alive though fewer
movie studios are backing the HD DVD format.
The machines are far more affordable than the
Blu-ray players.

Amazon.com lists the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD
player for $250. Sony's most affordable Blu-ray
player, the BDP-S300, cost twice as much.

"The player that combines both formats is just
too expensive," says Randy Waynick. (Mr. Waynick
is senior VP of marketing at Sony's home products
division.) "One or the other will win this format war."

Overview of HD DVD

The HD (high-definition) DVD is designed to be
the successor to the standard DVD format. It is
derived from the same underlying technologies.
It can store about three and a half times as much
data as its predecessor (maximum capacity: 30 GB
instead of 8.5 GB).

Overview for Blu-ray Discs

The name Blu-ray Disc is derived from the blue-violet
laser used to read and write this type of disc. Because
of its shorter wavelengh (405nm), substantially more
data can be stored on one of these than on the DVD
format. The DVD format uses a red (650 nm) laser. A
single layer Blu-ray Disc can store 25 gigabytes (GB),
over five times the size of a single layer DVD (4.7 GB).
Did you know a dual layer Blu-ray Disc can store 50 GB?
That is almost six times the size
of a dual layer DVD (8.5 GB).

Hard coating technology

The recent introduction of a clear polymer coating has
given Blu-ray Discs substantial scratch resistance.

Blu-ray Disc is currently in a format war with the rival
format HD DVD (more on that soon).

More on the Diffusion of Innovation.

This graph shows the popularity of a new innovative technological product.
An innovator creates product for consumers to buy.
Early adopters buy the cool and the new.
More people see it and purchase it. They are the early majority.
Soon everybody is buying one. They are the late majority.
Laggards finally give in and make a purchase. (technology is not high
on their list of priorities).
The consumer decides which innovations to pursue according to the expected outcome of an adoption decision. The expectations are continually monitored.

HD DVD vs. BLU-RAY

I have started a project where comparisons are noted in new DVD technology. The field of DVD's is changing faster than you think. There is a higher quality product available, actually two standards of higher quality. The High definition DVD offers a noticable sharpness when played on a High defintion system. But in seeing how Blu-ray plays on the improved system, there is no comparison! The Blu-ray offers incredible sharpness! The price of a high definition system is a little more than a normal one.The Blu-ray DVD machine, a good one, costs between $425 to $500. Now you can go and make your own comparison. Coming up: New DVD releases in high-definition and Blu-ray
